Abstract

Palembang as one of the metropolitan cities in Indonesia, with the rapid population growth, causes an increase in the activity of the population itself. The high activity of urban population causes the transportation activity on the highway continues to increase. The increase in transportation activities causesthe traffic density in many roads whichcausesmany traffic jams and other problems such as air pollution fforn vehicle gas emission. In rush hour, Parameswara Intersection of Palembang Cityoften occur a bigger potential traffic jam. Therefore, this study is conducted by analysing the condition of the intersection so that it can reduce the queue length and the delay time to find an altemative solution for setting the traffic flow more precisely. Modelling in this study uses PTV VISSIM 8. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the intersection on the existing condition and find out the best altemative solution scenario at the intersection in order to improve the intersection performance optimally and reduce the problem of queue length and delay time. This study also uses EnViVer program to calculate the value of vehicle gas emission that happened at Parameswara Intersection of Palembang City. Based on the analysis, it was found that the best solution to optimize the performance of intersection and reduce the vehicle gas emission from vehicle passing through the intersection is by doing widening of the road geometric.
