Abstract

Background: The elderly period results in a decrease in physiological function so that people are susceptible to degenerative diseases such as hypertension. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be given is laughter therapy which can release endorphin hormones into the circulation so that the body becomes more comfortable, relaxed and dilates blood vessels. This therapy is one of the simplest, easy to learn, does not require tools and does not require costs. Objective: to describe the clinical application of nursing care for 3 elderly people with hypertension who are given nursing intervention, namely complementary laughter therapy. Method: The method used is qualitative research with literature studies and case studies on patients with hypertension. Results: Mrs. A's blood pressure before therapy was 178/110 mmHg and after being given laughter therapy the blood pressure became 160/90 mmHg. The client Mrs. H before therapy was 173/92 mmHg, after being given laughter therapy the blood pressure became 162/102 mmHg. In the client Mr. M. Before therapy, blood pressure was 155/90 mmHg, after being given laughter therapy, blood pressure was 144/86 mmHg. Discussion : Based on the results of providing laughter therapy nursing care to three managed clients, it was found that there was a decrease in blood pressure after being given laughter therapy for 3 days, complaints of pain and difficulty sleeping decreased Conclusion: Laughter therapy can be applied to lower blood pressure in elderly clients with hypertension.
