Abstract

Etnis Batak merupakan salah satu etnis dari Indonesia yang berasal dari daerah Sumatra utara. Pada perkembangannya etnis Batak mengalami migrasi ke daerah lain yang memiliki budaya berbeda, salah satunya adalah Kecamatan Indralaya, kabupaten ogan ilir. Hal ini mengakibatkan terjadinya komunikasi antar budaya pada keluarga etnis Batak dan lingkungan msayrakat Kecamatan Indralaya. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai adaptasi speech code keluarga etnis Batak di Kecamatan Indralaya dengan menggunakan teori speech code oleh Gerry Philipsen yang mencakup enam proposisi yaitu kekhasan, keragaman, makna, substansi, situs, dan kekuatan dalam diskusi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana keluarga etnis Batak beradaptasi dengan speech code lingkungan mereka, khususnya di Kecamatan Indralaya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi sebagai sarana pengumpulan data. Hasil dan kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keluarga etnis Batak di Indralaya berhasil beradaptasi dengan speech code lingkungan budaya kecamatan tersebut dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Meskipun demikian, karakteristik verbal asli etnis Batak hanya terjaga di kalangan orang tua dan semakin memudar pada anak-anak mereka. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya untuk menjaga karakteristik khas tersebut agar tetap lestari dalam budaya etnis Batak di Kecamatan Indralaya.
