Abstract

Irritant Contact Dermatitis (ICD) is an eruption of the skin caused by the non-immunologic inflammatory response of the skin to the irritant agents. One of the at-risk groups for experiencing contact dermatitis is motorcycle workshop workers. Workers during motorcycle repair will easily expose themselves because they come into direct contact with the source of irritants that cause irritant contact dermatitis. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis in motorcycle repair shop workers in Sukarami District Palembang. This research was quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. A purposive sampling method with 84 sample was used in this study. Data analysis used chi square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that workers who experienced irritant contact dermatitis were 47.6%. Based on the chi-square test, the variables associated with the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis were age, length of service, and personal hygiene. The variables that were not associated with the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis are length of contact, history of skin disease, and use of personal protective equipment. The multiple logistic regression tests revealed that the age variable (p-value 0.001; PR 40.513; 95% CI 4.155-395.048) played a significant role in the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis. The age variable is related to the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis after being controlled for work experience and personal hygiene variables.
