Abstract

The Karst area has a unique ecosystem with a solution of limestone and carbonate rocks and is different from other ecosystems. Karst has an underground hydrological system which indirectly forms exokarst and endokarst naturally. One of the karsts on the island of Sumatra is Padang Bindu Karst, which has many cave ecosystems, including the Putri Cave Karst and Candi Cave. This Karst area is ideal for the life of various types of Karst biota, so that only animals that are able to adapt well can live with the privileges of this Karst, one of which is Coleoptera. This study aims to determine the types of Coleoptera that exist in both Karst Areas. as well as studying the characters of the Coleoptera found in the Karst area of Putri Cave and Candi Cave, Padang Bindu. This research was conducted from February to March 2023, in the Karst Area of Putri Cave and Candi Cave, Semidang Aji District, Padang Bindu, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, and identified at the Biosystematics and Evolution Research Center Laboratory, Bogoriense Zoological Museum, Cibinong, Bogor. Sampling was carried out by exploratory method with sampling techniques using Pitfall traps, yellow pan traps, sweeping nets, and hand collection. This study found 63 individuals of Coleoptera in the Karst Region of Putri Cave and Candi Cave, with 36 individuals in the Candi Cave Karst consisting of 8 families, namely Attelabidae, Chrysomelidae, Carabidae, Coccinelidae, Staphylinidae, Scarabaeidae, Languridae, Lycidae , and the Tenebrionidae. In the Karst Area of Putri Cave there are 27 individuals with 9 families, namely Chrysomelidae, Coccinelidae, Languridae, Lycidae, Scarabaeidae, Endomycidae, Eucnemidae, and Tenebrionidae
