ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Thesis, September 2023 MEISYA KHAIRATUL ARDI The Relationship Between The Physical Conditions Of House With Rats Exixtence In Buffer Area Of Boombaru Seaport Of Palembang Class II Port Health Office ABSTRACT Healthy houses must be free from disease vectors. One of the disease vectors is caused by the presence of rats. The port buffer area must be free from rat vectors, where rats can cause bubonic plague which is one of the quarantine diseases and needs to be watched out for transmission. The purpose of this study was to analyze the physical condition of the house against the presence of rats in the buffer area of the Boom Baru Port, Palembang Class II Port Health Office. This study used a quantitative method with a case control type of research so that a sample of 62 households spread across two RT in Lawang Kidul Village, namely RT 17 and RT 23, then from the two RT a sample was taken using proportional random sampling technique. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate using chi-square test. The results showed the presence of rats based on trapping success at RT 17 was (4,8%) and at RT 23 (4,2%) is moderate. There is a relationship between the condition of the walls of the house (p-value 0,032), the condition of the ceiling of the house (p- value 0,001), and the ventilation condition of the house (p-value 0,097) to the presence of rats in the buffer area of boombaru port. There was no relationship between the condition of the house floor (p-value 0,014) and the presence of rats in the buffer area of boombaru port. It is necessary to carry out preventive and promotive programs related to the importance of paying attention to the condition of rat proofing houses and routinely conducting control programs for the presence of rats that may carry disease.
