Abstract

International trade is the right way to improve the welfare of a country's people because not all countries have production factors such as natural resources, human resources and production equipment (technology) that are sufficient both in terms of quality and quantity in an effort to meet people's needs. Apart from that, in foreign investment there is always a relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the exchange rate and of course the exchange rate has a big influence on foreign FDI because when the exchange rate weakens a lot of foreign FDI comes in so that it can affect export prices in every country. This study examines the objects of 5 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines) where FDI, exchange rates and prices of export values affect competitiveness using the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) approach, using panel data regression analysis techniques. with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) selection model, the results show that the Real Exchange Rate (0.049 < 0.1) and Foreign Direct Investment (0.080 < 0.1) have a significant effect on competitiveness, while the Export Price Value (0.391 > 0.1) has no effect significant. In addition, this research is stationary and has a long-term relationship (cointegration) and is free from testing classical assumptions.
