Abstract
PT Sumatera Prima Fibreboard (PT SPF) is a private company that produces medium-density fibreboard or MDF. PT SPF made a green area in several locations in the factory environment as an effort to reduce air pollution, especially CO2 gas due to MDF production activities. The function of the green area as a store of carbon reserves has an essential role in reducing and suppressing the release of CO2 emissions into the air, especially in the factory environment. This research aims to determine the value of biomass and stored carbon reserves in saplings, poles, and trees rates, as well as understorey, and litter in PT SPF's green area. The methods used was stratified purposive sampling. The saplings, poles, and trees biomass was measured using non-destructive method by recording the species, and the diameter at breast height (dbh). Understorey and litter biomass measurements used the destructive method by taking parts of the understorey and litter above the surface as samples. There were 13 saplings, poles, and trees rates species belonging to 9 families and 13 understory species belonging to 11 families in the research plots. The potential for saplings, poles, trees, understorey, and litter carbon storage in 5 green areas of PT SPF with a total area of 16,673 m2 or about 1.67 ha of 471,20 tons is classified as a good category. PT Sumatera Prima Fibreboard (PT SPF) merupakan salah satu perusahaan swasta yang memproduksi panel serat berkerapatan sedang atau MDF. PT SPF membuat area penghijauan pada beberapa lokasi di lingkungan pabrik sebagai upaya mengurangi polusi udara terutama gas CO2 akibat aktivitas produksi MDF. Fungsi area penghijauan sebagai penyimpan cadangan karbon berperan penting dalam mengurangi dan menekan pelepasan emisi CO2 ke udara terutama di lingkungan pabrik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui besar biomassa dan cadangan karbon pada tingkat pancang, tiang dan pohon, serta tumbuhan bawah dan serasah di area penghijauan PT SPF. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode stratified purposive sampling. Pengukuran biomassa pancang, tiang dan pohon dilakukan menggunakan metode non-destructive dengan mencatat jenis, dan diameter setinggi dada (dbh). Pengukuran biomassa tumbuhan bawah dan serasah menggunakan metode destructive dengan mengambil bagian tumbuhan bawah dan serasah yang ada di atas permukaan sebagai sampel. Sebanyak 13 spesies tingkat pancang, tiang dan pohon yang tergolong ke dalam 9 famili serta 13 spesies tumbuhan bawah yang termasuk ke dalam 11 famili didapatkan pada plot penelitian. Potensi simpanan karbon pancang, tiang, pohon, serta tumbuhan bawah dan serasah ke-5 area penghijauan PT SPF dengan luas 16,673 m2 atau sekitar 1,67 ha sebesar 471,20 ton sudah termasuk dalam kategori baik.
