Abstract

Background: Dental anxiety refers to fear responses triggered by different factors, primarily dental procedures. Among these procedures, tooth extraction is known to contribute to the development of dental anxiety in children. One effective approach to mitigate this anxiety involves using audio distraction techniques. These techniques involve using auditory stimuli to divert children's attention away from their anxiety. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the variation in dental anxiety levels among children before and after the application of audio distraction techniques, specifically in children undergoing primary teeth extraction at RSKGM Prov.Sumsel. Method: This study is a pre-experimental research utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design, employing an incidental sampling method. The research was carried out on a cohort of 15 subjects scheduled for tooth extraction at RSKGM Prov.Sumsel. Anxiety levels were assessed before and after the implementation of audio distraction techniques, with observations recorded using the Child Anxiety Scales observation sheet. Results: The study findings revealed that the average anxiety level before implementing audio distraction was 3.67, indicating a relatively high level of anxiety ("quite anxious"). After the application of audio distraction techniques, the average anxiety level decreased to 1.67, with most individuals reporting a state of not being anxious. Concluson: Audio distraction techniques have a demonstrable impact on diminishing dental anxiety levels in children undergoing primary teeth extraction.
