Abstract

MUHAMMAD IQBAL SAPUTRA, Sexual Dimorphism and Reproductive Biology of Bronze Featherback (Notopterus notopterus, Pallas 1769) from Kelekar River, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra (Supervised by MUSLIM). Sexual dimorphism and reproductive biology are fundamental aspects of fish breeding studies. The aim of this study was to analyze the sexual dimorphism and reproductive biology aspects of N. notopterus. The samples were collected from the Kelekar River in Ogan Ilir Regency. A total of 74 N. notopterus samples were used: 38 males (total lenght: 18–23.6 cm; body weight: 35.1–92.1 g) and 36 females (total lenght: 19.6-26.3 cm; body weight: 49.4–133.8 g). Seventeen morphometric characters, three meristic characters, and five reproductive biology parameters were analyzed. The results showed that there were differences in the morphometric characteristics of male and female N. notopterus in the characters of eye diameter, body height and anal caudal fin lenght, but there was no difference in the meristic character. The male gonadosomatic index ranges from 0.15 to 0.61%, and the female from 1.12 to 9.10%. The hepatosomatic index of males ranged from 0.19 to 1.38%, and that of females ranged from 0.15 to 1.23%, with a sex ratio of 1.056:1, fecundity of 1.007–3.901 eggs, ova diameters of 1.1– 3.9 mm, and maturity stage of developed gonads to mature for males and mature to spawning for females. Dimorfisme seksual dan biologi reproduksi merupakan aspek mendasar dalam studi pengembangbiakan ikan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dimorfisme seksual dan biologi reproduksi N. notopterus. Sampel diambil dari Sungai Kelekar, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. Sebanyak 74 ekor N. notopterus sampel, 38 ekor jantan (panjang total: 18-23,6 cm; berat badan: 35,1- 92-1 g), dan 36 ekor betina (panjang total: 19.6-26.3 cm; berat badan: 49.4–133.8 g). Tujuh belas karakter morfometrik, tiga karakter meristik, dan lima parameter biologi reproduksi dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan karakter morfometrik jantan dan betina N. notopterus yakni pada karakter diameter mata, tinggi badan dan panjang sirip anal ke ekor, tetapi tidak ada perbedaan karakter karakter meristik. Indeks gonadosomatik ikan jantan berkisar 0,15-0,61% dan betina 1,12-9,10%. Indeks hepatosomatik ikan jantan berkisar 0,19-1,38% betina berkisar 0,15-1,23%, rasio kelamin 1,056:1, fekunditas 1,007- 3,901 butir, diameter telur berkisar 1,1-3,9 mm, tingkat kematangan gonad pada tahap berkembang hingga matang untuk jantan dan matang hingga memijah untuk betina.
