Abstract
Illegal oil mining/Illegal Driling is a mining activity carried out by thecommunity without legality or without a permit issued by the government. Thisillegal oil mining is spread in several villages around Babat Toman such as SungaiAngit Village, Keban, Kemang and Mangun Jaya. This activity has become thelivelihood of the community. There is a change in people's livelihoods fromagriculture to mining. The purpose of this research is to describe how the socioeconomic conditions and motives for illegal oil mining. This research method usesdescriptive qualitative methods using phenomenological theory with thedimensions of because motive and in order to motive. The findings obtained inthis study are that illegal oil mining affects socio-economic conditions in thefields of village political life, community education level, and communityeconomy. In the because motive, it was found that there was a large naturalresource potential, seeing the success of others, shifting agriculture to mining, lawenforcement factors and company support. While the goal motive is to achieve astable economy and social position or status. This research provides suggestionsfor both the government and the community so that law enforcement can runproperly based on the community's economy.
