Abstract
Jatropha curcas is one of medicinal plant that possesses antibacterial effect. Jatropha curcas sap contains active compounds such as tannin, flavonoid, and saponin which can inhibit bacterial growth of Gram positive bacteria. One of them is Enterococcus faecalis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Jatropha curcas sap on E. faecalis. The samples were divided into five groups according to the concentration of the sap 25%, 50%, 75%, 100 % respectively. Chlorhexidine 2% was used as positive control. Antibacterial efficacy test was done with diffusion method. This study used experiment laboratory with posttest only control group design. There were 5 groups consisted of Jatropha curcas sap concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% and Chlorhexidine 2%, with 5 repetitions. The sample were assessed after 24 hours of incubation period in 37°C temperature. Inhibition zone diameter was measured with digital sliding caliper and data were analyzed using Kruskall Wallis test and followed with Mann Whitney test as Post Hoc test. The result of this study showed that there were significant difference between all experimental group and control (p<0,05). The higher concentration showed the higher mean inhibition zone formed. The conclusion of this study was various concentration of Jatropha curcas sap have antibacterial effect on E. faecalis with 100% concentration showed the highest inhibition zone.
