Abstract

In May 2023 PT Ulima Nitra's production target was 81,809.12 tons while the actual achievement was 66,475 tons. This was caused by several factors and it was indicated that one of the contributing factors was coal losses. This study aims to calculate the potential losses, and the causes and efforts to minimize coal losses.Calculation of potential losses is done by comparing the recovery hauling data, namely the tonnage of mined coal based on the survey and the actual mined coal tonnage based on the weighbridge. The calculation results show the difference in tonnage of mined coal based on the survey with the actual tonnage of 2,650.42 tons, the loss value comes from the loading activity of 2,492.75 tons and the hauling activity of 157.67 tons. Based on observations, losses occur due to several factors, namely the use of inappropriate cleaning equipment, the operator's lack of understanding of cleaning limits, fine coal that is not collected, the operator's untidiness in excavation, the lack of water control pattern formation on the front, overloaded conveyances, bumpy roads , and self-burnt in the stockpile. The efforts that can be made to minimize these losses are using appropriate cleaning tools, increasing operator skills, filling vessels according to the sampling capacity, collecting fine coal, improving water control patterns, conducting more routine stock surveys.
