Abstract

Feed is an important component in aquaculture. The high price of feed is one of the obstacles in conducting fish farming. One way to reduce feed costs is by using artificial feed, but the price of soybeans as a source of protein in artificial feed formulations is relatively high because they are imported raw materials. Therefore, alternative feed ingredients are needed to substitute soybeans such as pigeon pea. This study aims to determine the effect of using pigeon pea meal to replace soybean meal in feed formulations and to get the best percentage of pigeon pea flour on growth, feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio and survival of catfish. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Aquaculture and Experimental Ponds from March to April 2023. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment was P0 (0% pigeon pea meal : 30% soybean meal), P1 (7.5% pigeon pea meal : 22.5% soybean meal), P2 (15% pigeon pea meal : 15% soybean meal), P3 (22, 5% pigeon pea meal : 7.5% soybean meal), P4 (30% pigeon pea meal : 0% soybean meal). The results showed that treatment P4 (30% pigeon pea meal : 0% soybean meal) was the best treatment with an absolute weight growth of 1.18 g, an absolute length of 2.22 cm, a feed efficiency of 57.05%, and a protein efficiency ratio of 1.58. The water quality obtained during culture was temperature 25.1-28.5°C, pH 6.61-7.03, and dissolved oxygen 4.31-5.18 mg L-1.
