Abstract

Investment is necessary for every country to increase its economic growth and the welfare ofits people. Since 1950, Indonesia and China have established diplomatic relations inpolitical, economic, social and cultural fields. In September 2013, the President of China XiJinping initiated the Relt and Road Initiative (BRI) and aims to accelerate the world economyand create new trade and econamic routes. In Indonesia, the BRI was agreed upon in 2013when the President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with the President of ChinaXi Jinping. China's BRI have been providing an opportunity for Indonesia to improve itsinfrastructure developments. However, China's BRI has also received criticism withinIndonesia; the reason being that China's domination and the debt trap are the main concern. This research method used in this research is qualitative data and using secondary data assources. The results indicates that this BRI cooperation has its pro and cons, but BRI remainsthe right choice for Indonesia to improve its economy. Albeit BRI has not had a significantimpact for Indonesia's infrastructure development, BRI has provided opportunities forIndonesia, for instance the entrepreneurs to initiate new business in the world, as well as new job opportunities for the people. Key words: Indonesia, China, BRI, cooperation, infrastructure
