Abstract

This research aims to understand the characteristics of volcanic rocks and the process of their formation in the Kikim Formation, which was carried out in the Negeriratu area and its surroundings. Volcanic rock is a type of igneous rock. The formation of volcanic rocks occurs during the cooling of magma when it has formed lava or frozen fragments on the earth's surface. The characteristics of the microscopic appearance of the andesite rocks of the Kikim Formation are interpreted to mean that the minerals that were formed first were primary minerals which were sequentially composed of plagioclase, pyroxene, hornblende, biotite, k-feldspar and quartz, ending with the formation of secondary minerals in the form of muscovite and chlorite. The special textures found in andesite incisions are intergranular, intersertal, zoning and trachytic. Based on the microscopic characteristics of the Kikim Formation tuff rocks, it is interpreted that the minerals that formed first in the primary minerals were, in sequence, aenigmatite, biotite, orthoclase, quartz and phillipsite. The special textures found in tuff incisions are intersertal, vitrophyric, and amygdules. Based on the microscopic characteristics of the rhyolite rocks of the Kikim Formation, it is interpreted that the minerals that formed first in the primary minerals were sequentially starting from plagioclase, hornblende, biotite, orthoclase and quartz. With a special texture in the form of amygdules and sieve.
