Abstract
Development of mental health is an integral part of national development. Ernaldi Bahar Hospital as a mental hospital in South Sumatra Province has the main task of helping the government in the administration of mental health, but the condition of Ernaldi Bahar Hospital is still faced with various problems, including the lack of health human resources, especially for psychiatrists and paramedics and the number of rooms and class facilities 3 (three) that are lacking in anticipation of the increasing needs of the underprivileged for hospital services. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research method that produces descriptions in the form of written words. The focus of this research is based on a strategy management model by J. David Hunger and Thomas L. Wheelen covering environmental observations using SWOT analysis, strategy formulation, strategy implementation and evaluation/control. Data collection techniques use observation, interview and documentation techniques. The data source came from Ernaldi Bahar Hospital employees, family of patients, documents and library books. Based on the analysis of the research shows that the strategy management in improving mental health services at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital has run quite well although there are a number of problems such as the condition of health resources that are still lacking in quantity, limited psychiatric specialists, hospital facilities and infrastructure that are still not suitable standard because there is still a limited budget / fund for investment costs at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital so that the strategy cannot be implemented optimally. In this study the author provides a solution that Ernaldi Bahar Hospital must cooperate with other parties to support the addition of hospital facilities and infrastructure, add health human resources, and increase the professionalism of employees at the Ernaldi Bahar Hospital.
