Abstract

Background. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is one of the risk factors for the development of TB cases. Co-infection with TB and HIV is a serious problem with high rates of cases globally and in Indonesia, which, if not properly managed, can pose a threat to public health. Information on age, gender, and laboratory results, including hemoglobin levels and CD4 cell counts, are needed to support TB/HIV co-infection prevention and treatment programs. This study aims to determine description of laboratory results of patients with TB- HIV/AIDS co-infection at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period May 2022-May 2023. Methods. This descriptive observational study used secondary data from the medical records and laboratory data at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital May 2022-May 2023, which met the inclusion criteria. Results. The number of TB-HIV co-infection patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in May 2022-May 2023 was 42 cases. The prevalence of patients is dominated by men (66%) and women (23.8%). Based on age, most were found at the age of 30-40 years (47.6%), age 17-30 years (28%) and age> 40 years (23.8%). From the results of the laboratory examination of CD4 cells, most patients with CD4 cell count <100 cells/mm3 (69%) and CD4 cells 100-200 cells/mm3 were found (16.7%), then patients with CD4 cells >200 cells/mm3 were (14.3%). The examination of hemoglobin levels was dominated by patients with low hemoglobin levels (71.4%) and patients with normal hemoglobin levels as many as 12 samples (28.6%). Conclusion. Most of the cases of TB-HIV/AIDS co-infection at the Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in the May 2022-May 2023 period were male, aged 30-40 years. In addition, most had CD4 cell counts <100 cells/mm3 and low hemoglobin levels (<13 (L)/ <12(P) g/dl). Keywords. Hemoglobin, TB-HIV/AIDS co-infection, CD4cells
