Abstract
Intercropping between chaya plants and spinach (Ipomea reptans) is an alternative of optimizing land. Basically, the intensity of sunlight will affect the morphological properties of plants and efforts to increase plant productivity, certain expansions can be done by regulating plant populations with planting distances. So this study aims to determine the effect of the shade of Chaya plant canopy (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) on the growth and yield of spinach (Ipomea reptans) Bangkok LP-1 variety with different planting distances. The research design used was a split plot design with two factors. The first factor as the main plot with a size of 80 x 200 cm, namely shading with 3 treatments, including the first conventional or no shade (N0), the second among the Chaya plant headers 80 cm in diameter (N1), and the third among the Chaya plant headers with a diameter of 120 cm (N2). The second factor as a sub plot by splitting the main plot into two parts measuring 80 x 100 cm. This second factor uses a different planting density or distance with 2 treatments, namely the first with a planting distance of 15 x 15 cm (J1), and the second with a planting distance of 15 x 20 cm (J2).The data obtained from the observations will be analyzed using the ANOVA method. If there is a significant difference, the LSD (Least Significant Difference) test will continue. The results of the study showed that the 120 cm header shade treatment was not significantly different from the 80 cm header shade treatment, but the shade treatment was significantly different from the conventional treatment. While spacing treatment only showed a noticeable difference in fresh weight modifiers per plot. Intercropping land use with shade can be done with kale plants, but the results will not be as good as conventionally grown kale plants. The recommended planting distance is a planting distance of 15x15 because it is not significantly different from a planting distance of 15x20 in terms of quality. In terms of quantity, a planting distance of 15x15 will produce more production results than a planting distance of 15x20.
