Abstract
Abstract [DESCRIPTION OF FLUORIDE LEVEL IN DRINKING WATER AND DMF-T SCORES IN 12 YEAR-OLD-CHILDREN IN SUNGAI PEDADO, PALEMBANG] People lived in Sungai Pedado, Palembang, use water from the river for daily drinking. The water is generally low fluoride level so that the people who consume it become more susceptible to suffer dental caries. The objective of this study was to identify the level of fluoride contained in the river and DMF-T scores of 12-year- old children in Sungai Pedado. This descriptive study employed by using cross-sectional method was performed on 36 children. Samples were taken from four different locations, then, the fluoride level was measured by using spectrophotometric. Dental caries status was measured by using the DMF-T index score. The results showed that DMFT score for 12-year-old-children lived in Sungai Pedado was 5,49 while the average level of fluoride contained in the drinking water was <0,05 ppm. The DMF-T score for girls was higher (5,58) than boys (5,42) while the score was also higher (5,88) for uneducated children than educated children (5,37). The conclusions from this study were the DMF-T score in 12-year-old-children who consume drinking water from the river is relatively high and the average level of fluoride in the river of Sungai Pedado is relatively very low.
