Abstract
Fall armyworms are invasive pests originating from the Americas and spreading rapidly to all parts of the world, including Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect on the growth and development of Spodopetera frugiperda given artificial diet made from wild plants and which type of feed is most effective on the growth and development of Spodopetera frugiperda. This observation used the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 4 treatments and one control repeated three times. Host plants used as the basic ingredients of artificial feed, including yearling spinach (Amaranthus hybridus L.), setaria grass (Setaria sphacelata), panicum grass (Panicum sp.), grinting grass (Cynodon dactylon), and maize (Zea mays). The results of this study were Spodoptera frugiperda given artificial diet from wild plants and maize can complete its life cycle and different characteristics. The highest percentage of normal pupae was produced from artificial diet made from grinting grass (Cynodon dactylon) and corn (Zea mays L.) as well as the parameter of the number of eggs laid followed by artificial diet treatment from setaria grass (Setaria sp.) but not significantly different from the other diet treatments.
