Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is the state of pregnant women experiencing hypertension with a systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg and proteinuria totaling ≥ 300 mg. Nifedipine can be given to pregnant women with preeclampsia. Antihypertensive drugs of the calcium channel blocker group, namely nifedipine, are one of the drugs that are often used because of their fast action and do not have teratogenic properties. This aim of this study is to determine the pattern of drug use nifedipine in pregnant women with preeclampsia at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Methods: The pattern of drug use has been done with a medical record data of pregnant women with preeclampsia at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital for the period 1st June 2020 – 31st July 2022, for approximately 1 month. A total sampling of 210 samples. Data collection was carried out according to the inclusion criteria and analyzed with SPSS 24.0 for windows. Results: The characteristics from 210 patients of pregnant women with preeclampsia were mostly preeclampsia with severe symptoms (99%), age> 35 years (54.3%), housewives (85.2%), multigravida (68.6%), multiparous (40.5%), and third trimester (95.2%). The use of nifedipine by 210 patients mostly consisted of doses of 10–20 mg (100%), frequency of administration ≤ 4 times per day (100%), duration of administration ≥ 1 day (100%), the majority of drug interactions were synergistic drug interaction types (21%), and there was 1 patient who did not meet the inclusion criteria for contraindications, namely mitral regurgitation (0.5%). Conclusion: The pattern of drug use of nifedipine based on the rationalistic criteria is appropriate dosage (100%), appropriate frequency of administration (100%), appropriate duration of administration (100%), and appropriate drug interaction (100%).
