Abstract
treatment of wastewater containing aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as toluene, using a membrane bioreactor has being paid much attention in recent years. silicone rubber membrane has been found to be useful in separation of VOCs due to its selective permeability for VOCs with the rejection to other ions, chemicals and water even at shownto be useful for the separation and degradation of phenol and BTX. Like in our previous ASTB system, in the membrane integrated bioreactor where the targeted pollutantseparated from the original was water can be degraded under a well controlled condition without the effect of extreme condition in pH, salts concentration and or the other components coexisting in the original wastewater, microbes in pure or mixed culture selected by acclimation to the targeted chemical can be used.
