Abstract

Lettuce plants can grow in the highlands and lowlands with an altitude of about 500-2,000 m above sea level and an average temperature of 15º-20ºC. Climate modification for lettuce cultivation in the lowlands can be done with an intercropping system. Land optimization through the use of intercropping patterns between Chaya plants and lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.) using several planting distance methods is expected to increase the production of Grand rapids variety lettuce plants to the maximum. This study aims to compare the effect of planting distance and shade level of chaya plant canopy on the growth and development of lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.) Grand rapids variety to the maximum. The study began with the cultivation of lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.) using a split plot design consisting of 4 repetitions, with the main plot being the shade level of the chaya plant canopy which includes conventional (no shade); TC 80 cm; and TC 120 cm, while plot children are a kind of planting distance consisting of a density of 15×15 cm; and a density of 15×20 cm. Data was obtained from the results of plant growth and production calculations analyzed using Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA), using the R-studio application. The results showed that the results of lettuce cultivation in the chaya intercropping cultivation system with a header diameter of 80 cm were no different from conventional cultivation systems. Then the growth of lettuce at planting distances of 15×15 cm and 15×20 cm is not different, but planting distances of 15×15 cm have more population so that it will produce more production results than planting distances of 15×20 cm.
