Abstract
Sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) has potential in South Sumatra. The largest spread of South Sumatra is in Muara Enim. Insects associated with the growth of sugar palm plants include pollinators, phytophages, natural enemies, and decomposers. This needs attention considering that palm plants have an important role in ecological, economic, and social aspects. This research was conducted in Tanjung Miring Village with the aim of identifying the insects associated with the vegetation around the plant. This insect observation method uses the purposive sampling method. Sampling was done using a yellow sticky trap, a pitfall trap, a sweep net, and visual. Observations were made by observing and calculating the diversity of insect species caught. Based on the results obtained, the order that is most widely obtained is in the order Hymenoptera. The most common insect species is Monomorium minimum. The highest number of insects in tree diameters at 31-40 cm was 850. The yellow sticky trap contained the most insects. The insect data obtained is determined by the index values of species diversity, species evenness, and species dominance. The insect data obtained were analyzed using NCSS software to see the effect of traps on insects, stem diameter on insects, week of observation on insects and traps on order. The results of this study showed that the insects associated with palm plants on the diversity index showed a value of H= 2.47. According to the criteria of the diversity index, sugar palm is classified as having moderate diversity with a range of 1 <H'<3. The species evenness index (E) is 0.73. the value of the insect species evenness index is low. The dominance index value in this study is D = 0.13, which means that there are no insects that dominate. The graphical results of the NCSS show a significant difference in the trap to the number of insects obtained, while in the trap to the order of insects, diameter to the number of insects, and the week of observation to the number of insects obtained, there is no significant difference.
