Abstract

Dermatitis is quite high in Indonesia. In epidemiological studies, Indonesia shows that 97% of 389 cases of occupational skin disease are contact dermatitis, of which 66.3% are irritant contact dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis is caused by cell damage due to chemical, physical and biological irritants due to work. The irritant attaches to or affects the skin and then damages the horn layer, denatures keratin, removes the fat from the horn layer and changes the binding capacity of the water. Occupational irritant contact dermatitis has symptoms of itching, redness, small collapse, stabbing, water-filled protrusions, swelling, tearing wounds that greatly affect performance and productivity, and work discomfort. The purpose of this study was to determine the determinants of the incidence of irritant contact dermatitis. This research use cross sectional design. The sample in the study were shrimp pond farmers in Bumi Pratama Mandira Village, Menang River District, totaling 103 samples selected based on simple random sampling method. This study shows that out of 103 respondents, 59 respondents experienced irritant contact dermatitis (57.3%) and 47 respondents did not experience irritant contact dermatitis (42.7%). The results of the analysis can be concluded that the duration of contact, history of skin diseases and the use of PPE, has a significant relationship to the occurrence of irritant contact dermatitis in shrimp farmer farmers. Meanwhile, work period, age, and personal hygiene have no significant relationship with the occurrence of irritant contact dermatitis in shrimp farmer farmers.
