Abstract
Maize is one of the staple food crops in several countries. In the process of corn cultivation, insect arthropods are directly involved as organisms or living things whose roles are predators, phytophages and decomposers (neutral). Some of these roles are beneficial and some are detrimental. Synthetic pesticide products are the weapon chosen by farmers to control pests in corn plants. The use of synthetic pesticides also has negative impacts such as leaving residues, not environmentally friendly and killing organisms that should not harm the corn cultivation process. Alternatives to the use of synthetic pesticides can be reduced by using endophytic fungi as bioinsecticides. The advantages of endophytic fungi are that they are environmentally friendly, do not leave harmful residues and do not kill insects that play a role other than pests. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of endophytic fungi on the abundance and species diversity of soil arthropods. This research was conducted in the research field of Plant Protection Study Program, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. This research began from March to September 2023 with a land area of 20 × 30 m. This research used a Randomized Group Design. The method used was the sampling method. The sampling tools used were pitfall trap and berlese funnel as the observation variables. Sampling was conducted on plants aged 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 and 63 days after planting. The arthropods obtained were then identified and documented at the Entomology Laboratory of the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The results showed that the highest abundance of soil arthropod species trapped in the pitfall trap sampling tool was predatory arthropod species Solenopsis invicta (Buren), while the berlese funnel sampling tool with the highest soil arthropod species trapped was neutral arthropods (decomposers) species Entomobrya sp. The impact of endophytic fungi on the total abundance and species diversity of soil arthropods was insignificant, but in certain species it had a significant impact such as species Pardosa pseudoannulata (Bose. Strand), and Schistocerca sp. were trapped by the pitfall trap sampling, while in the berlese funnel sampling the species with significant results are Pirata sp., and Entomobrya sp. The conclusion is that the impact of endophytic fungi did not reduce the abundance of soil arthropod species in either the root, seed or leaf treatments. The lowest species diversity in the pitfall trap was found in the leaf treatment (predatory arthropods), and the control treatment (phytophagous arthropods), while in the berlese funnel, the lowest species diversity was found in the control treatment (predatory arthropods).
