Abstract

Polyculture is a system of cultivating more than one type of plant in one stretch. Plants that can be planted with polyculture are rubber plants with chili pepper. Chili pepper has the potential to be planted in polyculture cropping patterns as intercrops under tree stands. Polyculture of chili pepper plants with rubber plants is one of the efforts to reduce pest problems and increase the production of chili pepper plants. This study aims to determine the diversity of arthropod species and production of chili pepper plants in polyculture with rubber plants in the Rubber Research Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research was conducted from August to October 2023. The research was conducted using a completely randomized design, experiment and exploration methods The research was conducted using a completely randomized design, experiment and exploration methods. The results showed that arthropods found in cayenne pepper plants grown in polyculture with rubber plants were 32 arthropod species. The 32 arthropod species were 17 species of phytophagous insects, 5 species of entomophagous insects, and 10 species of spiders. The 17 species phytophaguous were Aphis gossypii, Bothrogonia addita, Bactrocera dorsalis, Batrachedra pinicolella, Cycloneda munda, Cloeon dipterum, Chironomus sp., Drosophilidae sp., Edwardsiana rosae, Epilachna viginioctopunctata, Halymorpha halys, Ileis galbula, Ileis koebelei, Lymantridae sp., Mimetic micropezidae, Oryctes rhinoceros, Scymnus sp. 5 species of entomophages. The 5 species of entomophagous insects are Coccinella transversalis, Dolichoderus thoracicus, Paederus sp., Mantispa styriaca, Statilia maculate. 10 of spiders. The 10 spider species are Chrysso sp., Telamonia sp., Theredion grallator, Telamonia spinigerum, Theridula gonygaster, Therididae sp., Linyphiidae sp., Pelegrina sp., Telamonia dimidiata, Hentzia sp. The diversity index of arthropod species in rubber plant polyculture chili pepper plants is classified as moderate with a value close to 2.00. The species dominance index ranged from 0.54-0.91. The evenness index of arthropod species is high with a degree of more than 0.5. The provision of NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer has an effect on the height of the chili pepper plant and the provision of NPK 12:06:22:3+TE fertilizer has a very significant effect on the fresh fruit weight of the chili pepper plant. Chili pepper cultivation can be done in polyculture with rubber plants, the results of the calculation of production can be obtained weekly harvest profits then range from Rp. 7650 - Rp. 32,825.
