Abstract

Introduction: The government has launched a free iron supplementation program through Puskesmas to prevent anemia in Indonesia. Based on the program, iron tablets given to pregnant women must be consumed at least 90 tablets during pregnancy, but this is often hampered by the low compliance of pregnant women in consuming iron tablets arising due to various reasons such as poor knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of pregnant women related to anemia. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of pregnant women about anemia and compliance with Fe tablets consumption at Puskesmas Sekip Palembang. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted from August to October 2023 at Puskesmas Sekip Palembang. There were 107 samples that met the inclusion criteria. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The relationship between level of knowledge, attitude, and behavior was analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and the relationship between risk factors was analyzed using chi-square/fisher-exact and logistic regression tests. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 in the form of tables and narratives. Result: The characteristics of the samples are mostly 21-30 years old (55,14%), high school/equivalent (46,73%), and not working (housewife) (82,2%). The results showed that the level of knowledge of pregnant women was mostly in the poor category (57.0%), the attitude of pregnant women was mostly in the poor category (53.3%), the behavior of pregnant women was mostly in the poor category (50.5%), and the compliance of pregnant women was mostly non-compliant (53.3%). There was no significant relationship (PR= 0.950, p= 0.948) between the level of knowledge of pregnant women and compliance with Fe tablets consumption. There was a significant relationship (PR= 5.649, p= 0.021) between the attitude of pregnant women and compliance with Fe tablets consumption. There was a significant relationship (PR= 112.833, p= 0.000) between the behavior of pregnant women and compliance with Fe tablets consumption. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between the level of knowledge of pregnant women and compliance with Fe tablets consumption. There was a significant relationship between the attitude and behavior of pregnant women and compliance with Fe tablets consumption.
