Abstract

Background: Global tuberculosis in 2021 was found to be 10.6 million cases, an increase of approximately 600,000 cases from 2020. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The main cause of tuberculosis disease is necrotizing granulomatous inflammation. However, in people with HIV/AIDS, TB infection is a common infection and one of the leading causes of death. The diagnosis of TB can be made based on clinical symptoms, bacteriological examination, physical examination, and radiology. Thoracic photography is an easy, practical, and quick way to quickly find tuberculosis lesions. Thoracic photography has been used not only as a diagnostic tool, but also to assess disease severity. The researchers concluded that the availability of a valid and accurate thoracic photograph score could help categorize patients into high-risk groups in terms of treatment outcome. The purpose of this study was to compare the severity of thoracic X-ray images between pulmonary tuberculosis patients with and without HIV status at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Method: This research was a observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach, using secondary data from medical records. The total research sample was 62 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: The results of this study showed that TB patients without HIV status had minimal lesions 41.9%, moderate advanced lesions 38.7%, and very advanced lesions 19.4%. Meanwhile, TB patients with HIV status had minimal lesions as much as 32.3%, moderate advanced lesions as much as 45.2%, and very advanced lesions as much as 22.6%. From the results of the chi-square test, the significance value obtained was 0.733.. Conclusion: There was no difference between the thoracic X-Ray severity between of pulmonary tuberculosis without HIV status and pulmonary tuberculosis with HIV status.
