Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the most important plantation commodities in Indonesia. Oil palm is a commercial crop in several countries, especially Indonesia and Malaysia. Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) contains antifungal compounds that can suppress the growth of pathogenic fungi including G. boninense. The research was carried out at the Phytopathology Laboratory and greenhouse, Plant Protection Study Programme, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research was conducted from May to November 2023. Observations in the greenhouse used a completely randomised design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments and 5 replications and in vitro experiments using a completely randomised design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The results of in vitro tests of java turmeric root exudate with a concentration of 20% can suppress the growth of G. boninense by 42.87% on MEA + RBB-R (Remazol Brilliant Blue-R) media, not affecting colonies on MEA + tannin media. Java turmeric root exudate changed the colour of tannin with higher intensity with increasing concentration of curcuma root exudate. The 20% java turmeric root exudate treatment showed inhibition of tannin discolouration and inhibition of root weathering colonised by G. boninense. Planting java turmeric wrapped in nylon mesh or without wrapping did not affect disease and height, leaf area, and stem diameter up to 3 months of inoculation. The results of this study revealed that java turmeric is moderatel allelopathic by inhibiting colony growth and media discolouration activity of tannins
