Abstract

Background: Gout arthritis is an inflammatory disease of the joints caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joint area, especially the extremities. In pharmacological therapy, allopurinol is the first-line choice in the management of gout, especially asymptomatic, intercritical, and chronic hyperuricemia phases. In Indonesia, especially now there is no data discussed gout arthritis specifically. Drug pattern of allopurinol is still lack of information, especially in Palembang City, South Sumatra. This study aims to determine the pattern of allopurinol use for gout arthritis patients which includes sociodemographic factors (sex and age of the patient), good diagnosis, indications, dosage, frequency of administration, duration of administration, and drug interactions. Method: Drug pattern study of allopurinol for gout artrhritis patient has been completed at Sekip Palembang Primary Health Care from 1 July 2021 to 30 Juni 2022. There were 101 out of 107 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The sampling method uses the total sampling technique. The entire data is presented by SPSS v24 in tabular form. Results: The characteristics of gout arthritis patients who used allopurinol were male (61.3%), elderly age group (50.5%). The rationality of using allopurinol was based on the criteria for good diagnosis (96.1%), good indication (96.1%), right dose (100%), right frequency of administration (100%), right duration of administration (100%), and potentiation drug interactions (0.54%), antagonists (0.54%), and synergists (4.81%) Conclusion: The rationality of good diagnosis (96.1%), good indication (96.1%), right dose (100%), right frequency of administration (100%), right duration of administration (100%), and potentiation drug interactions (0.54%), antagonists (0.54%), and synergists (4.81%). Keywords: Gout Arthritis, Allopurinol, Drug Pattern Study
