Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that can attack the immune system and make the body susceptible to various diseases. Opportunistic infections can arise during the natural course of disease due to HIV infection. One of the opportunistic infections that is often found is tuberculosis (TB). This condition can be said to be someone who suffers from TB-HIV/AIDS co-infection. This study aims to determine the characteristics of gender, age, and GeneXpert examination results in TB-HIV/AIDS co-infected patients. This research is a descriptive observational study that uses secondary data from the Medical Records Installation and Central Laboratory of Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in the period May 2022 – May 2023. There were 46 cases of TB-HIV/AIDS co-infection patients. In gender distribution, men dominate this disease (76.1%) and women (23.9%). The 18 – 50 year age group is the largest age group (78.3%), <18 years (13.0%), and >50 years (8.7%). MTB not detected results were the most frequently obtained (71.7%), MTB low RIF sensitive (10.9%), MTB very low RIF sensitive and MTB medium RIF sensitive (6.5%), MTB high RIF sensitive and MTB medium RIF resistance (2.2%). TB-HIV/AIDS co-infection patients were mostly found in men (76.1%), age group 18 – 50 years (78.3%), and MTB not detected (71.7%). Key word: GeneXpert, Co-Infection, TB-HIV/AIDS
