Abstract

Background: Obesity is a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation of body fat, also the reason for insulin resistance, as lipid buildup in the liver triggers an inflammatory process. Inflammatory mediators in the liver are activated by Kupffer cells to produce cytokines pro inflammation. Prevention and management of obesity can be achieved through dietary modification intermittent fasting approach, specifically time-restricted feeding. This research aims to determine whether there are changes in the histology of liver tissue in a mice model of obesity subjected to intermittent fasting with a time-restricted feeding approach. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional method. The obtained data consisted of secondary biological material, specifically histological preparations of mice (Mus musculus) liver tissue from Muhammad Farhan's research (2023) that met the inclusion criteria. Preparations were divided into three groups based on the treatments given. Results: Successively, the number of Kupffer cells per group (cells/field of view) is 24,900 ± 10,805; 35,300 ± 10,306; and 33,020 ± 9,211. The number of steatosis per group (cells/field of view) is 0.003 ± 0.004; 0.011 ± 0.007; and 0.002 ± 0.003. The normal control group shows a significant difference in the number of Kupffer cells. The obesity group has a significant difference in the number of steatosis. Conclusion: Time-restricted feeding intermittent fasting does not have a statistically significant effect on the number of Kupffer cells in the obesity group. Time-restricted feeding intermittent fasting has a statistically significant effect on the number of steatosis in the obesity group. Keywords: Intermittent fasting, time-restricted feeding, steatosis, Kupffer cells
