Abstract

Background: Breast cancer holds the highest number of cases between incidences of cancer in Indonesia. Developing countries have a higher rate of mortality in comparison to developed countries due to late diagnosis and its worsening prognosis. Laboratory values have a high potential as one of the methods of early detection of breast cancer. Several studies reveal results of laboratory evaluation can act as a tool for patient monitoring and indicators for evaluating prognosis. This study was conducted to compare laboratory parameters between cancer stages in breast cancer patients of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital. Method: The present study is done as a cross-sectional observational analytic study. 159 samples were observed and recorded through consecutive sampling. This study collected secondary data of breast cancer patients, both inpatients and outpatients, ranging from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2022 from Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital’s Case-Mix Installation. The collected data were then analyzed accordingly. Results: We found significant differences between cancer stages statistically (p<0.05) on RBC (p=0.020), PT (p=0.007), and Ca 15-3 (p=0.000) values. RBC count was found significantly different between stage III and IV (p=0.027 <0.05). Prothrombin Time was found significantly different between stage II and IV (p=0.030 <0.05) as well as between stage III and IV (p=0.027 <0.05). Ca 15-3 values were found significantly different between stages II and IV (p=0.000 <0.05) as well as between stages III and IV (p=0.002 <0.05). Conclusion: RBC count were found significantly different between stages III and IV, Ca 15-3 values as well as PT were found significantly different in stage IV in comparison to both stages II and II.
