Abstract

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is an anomaly in the anatomy and physiology of the heart that is present from birth. CHD requires early detection as improper management can lead to death in the first month of life, with a mortality rate of approximately 50%. Patients with congenital disorders that are detected more than 3 days after birth are referred to as late presenters. This research is of descriptive observational nature, utilizing consecutive sampling methods from medical records of patients with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) who meet the inclusion criteria. From 38 research samples, it was found that there were more male patients (52.6%) and the age group of 1- < 5 years old was predominant (63.2%). Asianotic CHD was the most dominant (47.4%). Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) was the most common type (23.7%). Cyanotic CHD (47.4%) with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) diagnosis was the most prevalent (28.9%). In combined CHD cases (18.3%), the combination of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and VSD was the most diagnosed (10.5%). The primary complaint of cyanosis+murmur was the most frequent in cyanotic CHD cases (23%), while in Asianotic CHD, murmur, shortness of breath, and exercise intolerance were the most common complaints (16.7% and 11%, respectively). In combined CHD cases, murmur was also the most common complaint (28.5%). Only 6 samples from the three types of CHD experienced complications. One sample of cyanotic CHD had a hypercyanotic spell (7.7%), three patients with Asianotic CHD had pulmonary hypertension (16.7%), and one patient with combined CHD had complications (14.3%). Keyword: Congenital heart disease, delayed diagnosis.
