Abstract

Background. Based on World Air Quality Report, 2022 Indonesia becomes the country with the highest pollution in Southest Asia. In addition, in the list of the most polluted countries in the world, Indonesia is in 26th position. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air pollution is 2-10 times more dangerous, because around 80 to 90 percent of human activities are carried out indoors. n thus, poor indoor air quality has a higher urgency in threatening human health. One of the health problems that can be occur is Building Related Illness (BRI). Method. This research is an observational analytic study with cross-sectional design. The sample in this study was taken using the total sampling method. The number of samples in this study were 113 employees and 9 workspace. Data were collected through questionnaires and measurement of air quality samples. The data in this study were analyzed by univariate, bivariate (chi-square test), and multivariate (binary logistic regression). Results. The results of this study indicate that from 113 employees of Dinas PSDA South Sumatera who became respondents, 62 (54,9%) indicated that they had BRI and 51 other employees did not. There was no significant relationship between particulates (PM10) (p-value -), TVOCs (p-value -), formaldehida (p-value -), CO2 (p-value -), CO (p-value -), temperature (p-value -), lighting (p-value= 0,629), humidity (p-value= 0,166), and gender (p-value= 0,116) with BRI incidence. There is a significant relationship between age (p-value= 0,043) and years of service (p-value= 0,034) with BRI incidence. The most common symptom felt by employees was dizziness/headache (47,1%). Conclusion. The dominant variable that related to building related illness in Dinas PSDA South Sumatera employees 2023 are age and humidity.
