Abstract

Background. Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) is a developmental disorder of pregnancy characterized by abnormal proliferation of trophoblastic tissue. The prevalence of GTD in Indonesia is the highest among countries in Asia. GTD patients have characteristics based on sociodemographics, risk factors, and clinical characteristics. This study aims to determine the prevalence and characteristics of GTD patients at RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.Methods. This research is a descriptive observational study with a total sampling method and using the medical records of patients with GTD at RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.Results. There were 148 cases of GTD (2.9%) in 2021 – 2023. GTD patients are mostly aged 21 – 40 years (67,8%), high school education (47,9%), not working (89%), multipara (56.8%), multigravida (80,8%), never had an abortion (62,3%), pregnancy interval >12 months (58,9%), history of hydatidiform mole pregnancy (36,3%), first trimester gestational age (67,8%), symptoms of vaginal bleeding (80,1%) , histopathology type was complete hydatidiform mole (34,9%), β-hCG level <100,000 mIU/ml (53,4%), no metastasis (96.6%), no history of chemotherapy failure (94.4%), stage I (82%), therapy with chemotherapy (78,7%) and FIGO score ≦6 (65,2%).Conclusion. The prevalence of GTD in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2021 – 2023 is 2.9% of gynecological oncology cases. GTD patients are mostly aged 21 – 40 years, high school education, not working, multipara, multigravida, never had an abortion, pregnancy interval >12 months, history of hydatidiform mole pregnancy, first trimester of pregnancy, symptoms of vaginal bleeding, histopathology type was complete hydatidiform mole, β-hCG level <100,000 mIU/ml, no metastasis, no history of chemotherapy failure, stage I, therapy with chemotherapy and FIGO score ≦6.
