Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by infection with mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. A person with a history of diabetes mellitus has a 3 times greater risk of developing tuberculosis than a person without diabetes mellitus. This study was conducted by the author to analyze the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus and the severity index of chest radiographs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang in 2023. Method: This study is an observational analytic. The samples in this study were pulmonary tuberculosis patients with comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang in the period January-September 2023. Sampling was done by consecutive sampling technique with a sample size of 67 samples and obtained from patient medical records. The research data were analyzed univariately and bivariately (chi-square) using IBM SPSS statistics 27 software. Results: Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with HbA1C levels ≥7.5% had more severe category radiographic severity index scores (77.1%) than moderate (22.9%). Chi-Square bivariate analysis, HbA1C in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients has a significant relationship with chest radiographic severity index in pulmonary tuberculosis patients with a p value 0.002. Conclusion: Pulmonary tuberculosis patients with comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus who have HbA1C levels ≥7.5% have a chest radiographic severity index in the severe category. There was a significant relationship between HbA1C levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and the severity index of chest radiographs in pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
