Abstract

The area that often experiences water flooding in Indonesia is Muara Enim District, which is located in Muara Enim Regency. In overcoming the flooding problem that occurred in Air Lintang village, Muara Enim sub-district, The Muara Enim Regency Government has built a retention pond. However, after the retention pond was built, overflows often occurred, resulting in water pooling in the retention pond area and in Air Lintang Village, especially during the rainy season. This research aims to determine the magnitude of flood discharge in each recurring period, determine the capacity of the retention pond and feasibility of retention ponds using a hydrological approach by using the HEC-HMS application. The use of primary data in this research was obtained from field observations and secondary data in the form of rainfall data and spatial data. The method used is hydrological analysis to calculate the planned discharge, spatial analysis using the Arc-GIS application and to simulate rain using the HEC-HMS application. From modeling using HEC-HMS, the peak discharge for each return period is obtained, namely for a 2 year return period of 15.4 m3/second, 5 years of 25.0 m3/second, 10 years of 25.0 m3/second, 25 years of 25.0 m3/second, 50 years of 25.0 m3/second, 100 years of 25.0 m3/second and all peak discharge can still be accommodated by retention ponds.
