Abstract
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a tropical plant native to Nigeria in West Africa. In the development of the fast-growing oil palm industry in Indonesia, a major challenge arises related to stem base rot disease (BPB) caused by the fungus Ganoderma boninense. Curcumin has strong antifungal ability and can damage cell membranes and alter proteins in pathogenic fungi. Tannins have potential as antifungals, with their metabolite compounds proven effective in inhibiting fungal growth. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of antifungal formulations containing curcumin and tannin in inhibiting the growth of Ganoderma boninense fungi. This research was conducted in vitro at the Phytopathology Laboratory, Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 1 control, with 5 replications. And carried out in planta in the Greenhouse, Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University using a randomized group design (RBD) experiment, 2 groups and a separate control group, and carried out for three different periods, namely: beginning of treatment (0 month), 1st month, 2nd month in the 1st group, and then the 2nd group. The variables observed in the in vitro test included colony diameter, growth rate, growth inhibitory value, colony morphology, EC value and pH. And the variables observed in the in planta test included plant height, leaf area, stem diameter, stem base rot disease severity. The application of curcumin and tannin extracts is expected to suppress the growth of Ganoderma boninense.
