Abstract

Background: Scabies (scabies, agogo itch) is an inflammatory skin condition that causes itching especially at night, caused by Sarcoptes scabiei variant hominis (S. Scabiei). Scabies is highly contagious through skin contact and occurs indirectly through clothing or bedding contaminated with mites. One of the risk factors causing scabies is lack of knowledge, attitude and behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes and behavior about scabies. Methods: This study used an analytic study design with a cross-sectional design, which aims to determine the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. This study uses quantitative research methods because the research data is in the form of numbers and analysis using statistics. Data were processed in the form of univariate and bivariate with the chi-square test. Results: In this study, it was found that the total study population that could be used as a research sample was 486 students, 185 (52%) male and 171 (48%) female. The results showed that there were 247 (69.4%) students had good knowledge about scabies, 327 (91.9%) students had a good attitude about scabies and 306 (86.0%) students had good behavior about scabies. In the bivariate test, the probability value for the relationship between knowledge and behavior, and the relationship between attitude and behavior were p=0.291; 0.001, respectively. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between knowledge and behavior and there is a significant relationship between attitude and behavior. Keywords: Scabies disease, knowledge, attitudes and behavior
