Abstract

Self-medication is one of the ways common society all over the world did to maintain health and solve common health issues without the help of medical team. The aim of this study is to determine the association between knowledge, attitude, and practice towards self-medication by students. A cross sectional study was conducted in the Faculty of Medicine in Sriwijaya University on December 2023. The total of samples are 72 of undergraduate medical students who met the inclusion criteria. The measuring instrument used is standardized questionnaires. Data was analysed using IBM SPSS 27. The results of this study is showing the prelavence of self-medication by the undergraduate medical students of the Faculty of Medicine in Sriwijaya University was 56,9%. The bivariate test (ChiSquare / Fisher’s Exact) showed associations between knowledge towards selfmedication with PR = 1,526 and p-value = 0,556 and practice towards self-medication with PR = 3,694 and p-value = 0,088. Hence, there’s no association nor significance between attitude towards self-medication with PR = 0,650 and pvalue = 1,000. The multivariate test (Regression Logistic) showed the same results as the bivariate tests with each values are adjusted PR = 1,255 and p-value = 0,667 for knowledge (risk factor), adjusted PR = 0,463 and p-value = 0,568 for attitude (protective factor), and adjusted PR = 3,678 and p-value = 0,090 for practice (risk factor). It was concluded that practice is the main factor for self-medication in this study with PR = 3,678 and p-value = 0,090.
