Abstract
Background: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that attacks the human urinary system. The discovery of a significant number of bacteria shows a growth rate of more than 100,000 cfu/ml and is known as bacteriuria. This bacteriuria can be asymptomatic or symptomatic. The Indonesian Urogynecology Association estimates that the prevalence of UTI in pregnant women is 2-10%. Urinary tract infections in pregnant women contribute greatly to perinatal and maternal morbidity. UTIs that occur during the third trimester are at risk for babies with mental retardation, cerebral palsy in babies, premature labor, and even fetal death. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for urinary tract infections in pregnant women at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This study used an observational analytic research method with a cross sectional design. Sample collection using consecutive sampling method. The total sample in the study was obtained as many as 60 samples that had been determined and in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data processed was secondary data. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis used Chi-Square or fisher's exact statistical test and multivariate analysis with logistic regression test. Results: A total of 36 pregnant women at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in January-December 2022 who experienced UTI. The frequency distribution of patients with UTI is age ≤ 35 years (69.4%), low education (91.7%), not working (77.8%), 3rd trimester (66.7%), and primipara and multipara (69 .4%). There is a significant relationship (p value < 0.05) between gestational age and UTI in pregnancy. There is a non-significant relationship (p value ≥ 0.05) between age, education, employment and parity with the incidence of UTI in pregnancy. With multivariate analysis, pregnant women in the third trimester of gestation have a 3,248 times risk of experiencing UTI during pregnancy. Conclusion: It was found that there was a significant relationship between gestational age and UTI in pregnancy. Meanwhile, an insignificant relationship was found between age, education, employment and parity with the incidence of UTI in pregnancy. Gestational age is the risk factor most associated with the incidence of UTI in pregnancy at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Keywords: Urinary Tract Infections, Risk Factors, and Pregnant Women.
