Abstract

The river is one of the water sources with great potential that can be utilized for various activities. Basic sanitation is a minimum environmental health requirement that every family must have to meet their daily needs. Basic sanitation facilities include fecal disposal facilities, garbage disposal, and wastewater disposal. Seberang Ulu 1 District has densely populated settlements where the average house is on the banks of the Musi River so that it can cause various kinds of house sanitation problems and have an impact on the quality of river waters. Fecal coliform is one of the parameters of river water pollution that can cause diarrheal diseases. The purpose of this study was to analyze Fecal coliform levels in Musi river water and analyze the basic sanitation conditions of houses in the Seberang Ulu 1 District of Palembang City. This research uses a descriptive design with qualitative methods. Information obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and laboratory tests. The informants in this study amounted to 12 people consisting of 6 key informants and 6 supporting informants using purposive sampling techniques. Validity tests are performed through triangulation of sources and methods. The results showed that fecal coliform levels, temperature, pH still met the requirements. However, the turbidity and DO parameters do not meet the quality standards of South Sumatra Governor Regulation No. 16 of 2005. In addition, the variables of fecal disposal facilities, garbage disposal facilities, Wastewater Sewerage Facilities found in most houses in 3 villages of Seberang Ulu 1 District have not met the requirements of Kepmenkes RI No.829 of 1999. The conclusion in this study is that the water quality of the Musi river for some parameters has not met the requirements such as in DO and Turbidity. Meanwhile, most people's basic sanitation facilities are not yet qualified. So it is recommended that there is counseling related to the importance of home sanitation facilities in the community. In addition, for Musi River water quality parameters, regular supervision and monitoring are carried out so as to minimize pollution in river water.
