Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Jigsaw type cooperative learning model on mathematical communication of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 74 Palembang. Mathematical communication is the ability used to solve problems in mathematics, starting from changing story problems into symbols or images. This research used quasi experimental design method with nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all fifth grade students of SD Negeri 74 Palembang. The sample in this study were 26 students who were taken with purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were questions in the form of descriptions. The data analysis technique in this study used was the Mann Whitney Non-Parametric Test which was first carried out normality test and homogeneity test. The results in this study showed that the experimental group obtained an average score of 56.58 while the control class had an average of 27.96. The results of the Mann Whitney Non-Parametric Test calculation with a significant level of α = 0.05 obtained a sig value. 0.037 where 0.037> 0.05. Based on the results of the Mann Whitney Non-Parametric Test, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the Jigsaw type cooperative learning model on mathematical communication of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 74 Palembang.
