Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical modeling abilities in learning assisted by statistical simulation applications in statistical material, especially the subchapter on data centering measures. This study used a type of qualitative descriptive research with the subjects of the study were 34 students of grade XII Science 1 SMAN 1 Palembang. Data collection techniques in this study are written tests and interviews. Data were analyzed based on the results of each student's written test and interviews with students according to predetermined categories of mathematical modeling ability. Students' mathematical modeling ability is seen based on indicators of mathematical modeling ability. The results of this study showed that students' mathematical modeling ability in statistical simulation application-assisted learning was categorized well with a percentage of achievement of 47.06%. Most students can meet the indicators of mathematical modeling well and are able to solve problems with the conclusion of appropriate answers. However, in the process of solving students still experience several obstacles such as errors in understanding problems, mathematical calculation errors, forming inappropriate mathematical models, not identifying variables as a whole so that they experience confusion in the mathematical solving process.
