Abstract

n oil palm cultivation there are many obstacles, including pest attacks, especially horn beetles (Oryctes. rhinoceros). The horn beetle (O. rhinoceros) is the main pest in oil palm plantations and will often be found attacking coconut plants from seedlings until the plants are 2.5 years old. Symptoms of attacks caused by this pest include bite marks on oil palm leaves in the shape of an inverted V on oil palm leaves. As a result, production of fresh fruit bunches can decrease by up to 69% in the first year of harvest. The aim of this research is to determine whether the bio-insecticide formulation with a mixture of solid waste is effective as a growing medium for B. thuringiensis. To find out how toxic the Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria is, which has the power to kill as a bio-insecticide against O. rhinoceros larvae. This research was carried out using the B. thuringiensis mortality test method on O. rhinoceros larvae using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which was carried out with 4 treatments and 6 replications.. Observations were carried out for 1 month by observing the level of toxicity of B. thuringiensis to O. rhinoceros larvae. The waste media producing the highest spores was at a dose of 0 months from onggok + palm oil meal media and used TPP isolate. Based on observations on the first day, no dead larvae were found, but on the third careful observation, dead larvae began to be found. This is likely influenced by the larvae failing to adapt to the new environment. Symptoms that can be seen in dead larvae are that the color of the cuticle changes to a dark color and emits a foul odor, besides that the body texture of the larva becomes soft and slimy.
