Abstract

Oil palm plantations have an important role in the Indonesian economy as a leading commodity in the plantation industry. Pathogenic attacks such as Ganoderma boninense can disrupt the productivity of oil palm plantations. The herbaceous plant Belitung taro has the allelopathic potential of root exudates which can inhibit the growth of G. boninense. This study aims to determine the effect of giving Belitung taro root exudate on the growth of G. boninense colonies and color changes in RBB-R (remazol brilliant blue-R) and tannin media, to determine the effect on weathering of G. boninense fungal inoculum in vitro, and to determine The effect of Belitung taro root exudate in suppressing G. boninense infection on oil palm seedlings in planta. Research was carried out in the Phytopathology Laboratory and greenhouse, Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research consisted of three experiments, namely two in vitro experiments and one in planta experiment. The first in vitro experiment used a completely randomized design (RAL) 4×5 and the second in vitro experiment used RAL 4×3. The treatments used in the in vitro experiment were Belitung taro root exudate in concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20% and control as a comparison. In planta experiments used oil palm seeds inoculated with G. boninense for 3 months using the RAL 6×5 method with treatments: 1) Belitung taro wrapped in mesh + G. boninense inoculum, 2) Belitung taro wrapped in mesh + oil palm + G. boninense inoculum, 3) Belitung taro + G. boninense inoculum, 4) Belitung taro + oil palm + G. boninense inoculum, 5) oil palm + G. boninense inoculum, and 6) control palm as a comparison. In vitro experiments using Belitung taro root exudate with a concentration of 5% on MEA + tannin media had the highest resistance value (13.91%) and there was a change in the color of the media to dark brown, whereas on MEA + RBBR media there was no resistance but caused a slight change in the color of the media. concentration 20%. In vitro tests using Belitung taro root exudate treatment had no effect on the weathering of oil palm roots colonized by G. boninense. The in planta test in the greenhouse showed that the results were not significantly different for each treatment and had no effect in suppressing G. boninense infection in oil palm seedlings.
