Abstract
The objectives of this research was to determine the species of fruit fly (Bactrocera) visiting bitter cucumber and ridge gourd plants, and to determine the combination of methyl eugenol and fruit extract more preferable to fruit fly (Bactrocera sp. ). The research was conducted in bitter cucumber cropping area in Village Pulau Semambu and ridge gourd cropping areas in Village Tanjung Pering, Sub-district Indralaya Utara, District Ogan Ilir from May to June 2018. The experiment was arranged in a Block Randomized Design (BRD) consisted of 4 treatments and 6 replications. Observation was conducted for 5 weeks. The treatment was Methyl eugenol added with star fruit extract, methyl eugenol added with mango extract, methyl eugenol added with cucumber extract, and methyl eugenol only (control). The results showed that there were two species of fruit fly caught by the trap, Bactrocera dorsalis and Bactrocera umbrosus. Treatment with methyl eugenol added with cucumber extract could attract more fruit fly imagoes compared to traps with methyl eugenol added with other fruit extract. Trap containing methyl eugenol added with cucumber extract could trapped 759 fruit flies in ridge gourd plants and 711 fruit flies in bitter cucumber plants.
